To support pest management professionals in this specialist sector, inPEST has developed a monitoring protocol specifically for museum environments, based on the use of sticky traps and attractants designed for the main pest species associated with cultural heritage.
This approach enables the collection of objective data on the presence of pests, the timely identification of any critical issues and support for the end client in adopting an Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategy.
Key target species monitored include those of particular relevance to the sector, such as Anthrenus verbasci, Attagenus spp., Lasioderma serricorne, Lepisma saccharina, Ctenolepisma longicaudatum, Tineola bisselliella and Dermestes spp., pests capable of thriving in environments rich in organic matter and historical artefacts.
